I’ve been prepping daily for D-day, err I mean V-day, though the amount of orders I have for the Conversation Heart boxes is a little daunting!
One of the most common questions I get asked is “How do your sugar cookie shapes stay so perfect?!” There are really two simple things you can do to prevent your sugar cookies from spreading, and will completely rock your cookie world. Are you ready? Ok, here goes:
- Do not use baking soda or baking powder in your recipe. The sole purpose of those ingredients is to allow your baked goods to rise. If you omit those ingredients, they will not spread.
- Roll your sugar cookie dough when room temperature, then pop it in the refrigerator to chill for at least 15 minutes. Then, when you go to use your cookie cutters, you will get clean shapes and you can easily move the shapes without distorting the image.
I took a few pictures of some of the heart cookies I made tonight to give you an idea of how much these simple steps can help.
