3D Printing

ONE

Have you ever thought to yourself, “Man, I wish I could just make X”?

Yeah, me too. I asked and received a 3D printer from my awesome MIL this last Christmas, and have become slightly obsessed. So obsessed, that I just ordered my 2nd printer and it should arrive this week!

I started making cookie cutters, which I now sell in my Etsy store. I have also expanded into cupcake and cake toppers. I’m still learning CAD software design in my (not so) spare time, and hope to be able to create some more awesome things soon! I will be expanding my Etsy store to offer some of these additional 3D prints soon!

If you are interested in any custom 3D print, just shoot me a message!

Here are few things I’ve created:

Baseball!

It is April 15th in Iowa, things should be starting to grow, it should be getting warmer outside, and I should be thinking happy thoughts. But I’m not. Why? Because everything is still dead, and we are still getting snow. I’m not sure who pissed off mother nature, but I sure wish you’d apologize.

I do have some hope spring is near though, because my oldest, Jace, had his first baseball game this last week. Watching him play baseball is one of my favorite things, so I decided to whip up some cookies for his team’s next game tomorrow, that is if they don’t postpone due to snow on the field (insert angry face here).

These cookies are actually pretty simple to make. They are simple round cut outs, decorated in a few different steps.

  1. I outline and flood the outside half rounds of all cookies first, then I go back and fill the middle. The purpose of this is to give the indention where the laces will go so that you have a guide, and it will give the cookie a more 3D look.
  2. I airbrushed the outer edge and lace line using 1 drop of brown and 3 drops of white AmeriMist food coloring.
  3. I played around with a few different options when it came time to do the laces. First, I used a size 1 tip and piped the lace line, then stitching on top.

Next, I used a red food marker to outline the laces, then piped the stitching on top.

I really don’t know which I prefer, but I’m sure the boys will love either version.

Nana Bread

My youngest son’s favorite food is nana’s (bananas). He has to eat at least 1 a day! I have been craving some banana bread and finally made some this week. Obviously Max is a huge fan. He even refused to put it down this morning and took it to daycare with him.

I came up with this recipe one afternoon just by throwing some things together, and much to my surprise, it was the best banana bread I had ever had. I scrambled to jot down the recipe, because my memory is basically mush, but I think I did it.

Tara’s Banana Bread

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 very ripe bananas
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Cream butter and sugars. Add vanilla, eggs, and bananas and mix until well combined. Add baking soda, salt, and cinnamon and mix until combined. Finally, add flour and mix slowly just until well incorporated. Pour into glass loaf pan and bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes on the middle rack. Insert toothpick into the center of the loaf to check doneness- if only a few crumbs are attached it is ready to come out of the oven. If not quite done, bake in 5 minute increments, checking the toothpick each time. After the bread has been taken out of the oven and has cooled slightly, stuff your face.

Warning: This banana bread is slightly addicting.

House for Sale

You may have noticed I’ve been a little MIA lately… My husband and I decided to put our house on the market, and made an offer on a new one contingent on the sale of ours.

I mean, just look at this kitchen that will hopefully soon be mine! I’m so in love with it.

What I’m not in love with is putting my baking life on hold while we start packing and trying to keep the house picked up for showings. I am still printing cutters, and will start designing again soon, just not doing much decorating. Short post today, hope everyone has a great week!

Play with your food

“Don’t play with your food, just eat it!”

What mother hasn’t uttered this phrase to their hyper child? You know though, I’d just be happy if I could get my kids to eat anything most days. But this- this one is for you moms’! This creation may allow you five free minutes of silence, or maybe even a trip to the potty alone, *Gasp!*

So enough teasing, what is this wonderful creation that can give you five minutes of sanity? Paint your own cookies. This is a sugar cookie that has an image meant to be painted, and then inhaled. Each cookie is packaged individually with a disposable paint brush, food color palette, and image.

All you need to do is dip the paintbrush into a little bit of water, then the color of your choice and  apply to your cookie! If this is your first child you may need to resist the urge of framing the sure to be Picasso. Seriously, don’t do it. If this is your second+ child, they have already consumed the cookie and you are debating if it would be such a bad thing if you gave them another, because five minutes of sanity feels like forever.
